It’s the time of year again for long summer holidays for some – along with many exciting sporting events such as the World Cup and Wimbledon.

Getting involved in the sporting spirit, The Student Support Centre’s Southern office has been helping Tennis Fundamentals for two years.

Tennis Fundamentals run holiday camps all over Northern Ireland during the Spring and Summer school holidays. Having been established for over sixteen years, around 1300 children aged from 6 - 14 attend the camps each year. From complete beginners to more advanced players, Totally Tennis camps provide children with three hours of professional sports tuition every day for either a week in May and June, or on longer holiday camps, running from six to nine weeks in July and August. The aim of the camps is to help children develop agility, balance, co-ordination and speed, in line with the current best practice for athletic development.

Alternatively, children can enrol on the Multisports camps - which include a daily tennis lesson as well as other sports such as football, cricket, hockey, baseball and American football. All lessons are conducted outdoors and children are kept active for three hours a day during the long summer holidays.

As Nigel Hutchinson of The Student Support Centre says: ‘Of course education is vital for children and young people, but so is family life and keeping active. It’s really important for The Student Support Centre to bring together the services we offer through the ‘simply’ home-based tuition programmes with a wider community focus. Our work with Tennis Fundamentals exemplifies this and we hope to continue supporting them well into the future.’

The Tennis Fundamentals holiday camps are a great way for children to stay active, learn new skills, build confidence and make new friends before the holidays are over by September!

About The Student Support Centre:

The Student Support Centre opened its doors in 1991 and has since become the largest provider of home-based tuition programmes with 9 regional offices across the UK.

Our ‘simply’ programmes provide home-based tuition and support for children aged between 4 and 17 and may be a more cost effective alternative to private tutors for learning maths, English and reading. They have been designed to mirror the way in which children are taught in schools based on the National Curriculum requirements and use the teaching methods currently recommended for use in schools.
